5 Activities with One Tot Tray

This one tot tray is a 5-in-1; how cool is that?

First off, supplies needed:

  • Multiple colors of pom poms
  • Small cups
  • Tongs
  • A tot tray or baking sheet or placemat

Tray #1- Practice with Tongs

Dump out all of the pom poms onto your tot tray. Give your tot a cup and some tongs. Have them practice using the tongs to put the pom poms in the cup. This is a great fine motor skill activity.

Want to make it more challenging? Have different size pom poms for them to pick up and/or have them drop the pom poms into an empty bottle instead (since it has a smaller opening than a cup).

Tray #2- Pom Pom Color Sort

Give your child the pom poms and some colored containers. Have them order the pom poms by color (example- red pom poms in the red container). T loves doing this activity with his tongs as well.

Tray #3- Pom Pom Size Sort

Sort the pom poms according to size. This will also help teach them about the concepts of big and small.

Tray #4- Practice with Pouring

Let your tot fill a cup or container with the pom poms, and then practice pouring the pom poms into another container. This is a great motor skill practice. To make this activity more interesting, try having a variety of containers for them to practice with.

Tray #5- Pattern Making

Have your tot practice making simple patterns; example- red, blue, red, blue.
