Why Your Toddler Should Have a Book Basket

Why Your Tot Should Have a Book Basket

What is a book basket?

A book basket is just that- a basket with books in it.

Once your child starts school you are likely to see book baskets all over their classrooms, but your toddler will greatly benefit from having one as well.

What kinds of books should be in the basket?

You may have already had experience with this — babies and toddlers area really hard on their books! I have books that T gnawed on that look like the dogs got to them. Tots also tend to bend the bindings the wrong way and are likely to tear pages.

With this in mind, I highly recommend that you only fill the basket with board books until your child is a bit older. I filled mine with some old ones and ones that were already clearly showing some wear and tear.

Why should my toddler have a book basket?

Why is often the most important question anyone can ask.

Here are some reasons why your child should have a book basket:

  1. Get them familiar with how to hold books
  2. Exposes them more to letters and words
  3. Shows them how words are organized on a page
  4. Peaks their interest in books in general
  5. Shows them that the pictures show what is happening in the story

I’m sure your little one will love their freedom of getting to look at books.

Happy reading!
